A varied collection of textured vessels, all designed to hold and serve, or simply adorn. Choosing the specific textured fabric — with which to lay down on a slab, press down and pull off — is as much a significant decision for me as determining the size and shape of the vessel. Over time, as I focused more and more on creating different textured surfaces, I branched out from using fabrics to experiment with found objects that would impart interesting texture. In this quest, I am reminded of the Bowerbird, an Australian native bird renowned for its nest building skills and courtship behavior. The male of the species goes to great lengths to create and decorate a nest with various found objects, such as shells, bones, pieces of fabric, etc. in the hopes of attracting the female. As a finder and collector of textured items to use on my pieces, I hope to attract viewers intrigued by the piece’s surface, as much as its shape.
